Florent Baboux, associate professor at MPQ laboratory, has been elected a Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) under the Fundamental chair. Congratulations!
His research aims to use light to explore and control quantum phenomena that remain difficult to access in common materials. His work is based on miniaturized circuits in which photons are generated directly within networks of nonlinear waveguides and then manipulated using their topology. By using the frequency of light as an additional coordinate, this approach makes it possible to construct synthetic dimensions and simulate geometries that are difficult to realize in ordinary space. These nonlinear photonic networks thus provide a controlled platform for simulating certain fundamental behaviors of quantum systems.
The role of the Institut Universitaire de France is to encourage the development of high-level research in universities and to strengthen interdisciplinarity. The professors and researchers appointed are recognized for the excellence of their scientific activity, as demonstrated by their international reputation.
