General public exhibition, free access.

At the MPQ laboratory, electronic and photonic chips are designed and manufactured for use in both fundamental research and industrial applications, such as quantum telecommunications and high-precision mechanical sensors.
The laboratory’s researchers have access to a clean room, which is an experimental room for measuring the electrical or optical properties of the components that are manufactured. Teams then specialize in modeling physical phenomena.

Every year, many doctoral students from this laboratory defend their theses. On this occasion, Florent Malabat, a doctoral student at MPQ laboratory, creates a caricature for each of them, inspired by their personality and research topic. These drawings, which are true scientific nods, are sometimes engraved on silicon wafers, the basic substrate for photonic and electronic chips, and thus become precious souvenirs.

These caricatures are the result of a collective effort by the doctoral students, who choose together which elements of their research lend themselves to humor and drawing.

Come and discover an exhibition of these unique works, accompanied by accessible explanations of the research topics they represent.
