Giuseppe Leo (né en 1966) a reçu son diplôme d’ingénieur summa cum laude en 1990 (Rome-Sapienza) et son doctorat en physique en 2001 (Paris-Sud, Orsay). Ancien Maître de Conférences (depuis 1992) puis professeur (depuis 2002) à l’Université Roma-Tre, il est professeur à l’Université Paris Diderot depuis 2004. Il a effectué la plupart de sa recherche dans les domaines de l’optoélectronique et de l’optique non-linéaire, en particulier sur la nano-photonique non linéaire AlGaAs. En France, il a dirigé 7 post-docs et 12 doctorants. Auparavant, en Italie, il avait encadré 12 thèses de Laurea.
Responsable de l’équipe DON du laboratoire MPQ, en 2006 il a fondé et dirigé 2 Licences-Pro à Paris Diderot (“Analyse des matériaux” et “Biophotonique”). Depuis 2008, il a piloté la création de l’Ecole d’Ingénieur Denis Diderot, dont il il a été le directeur depuis. Dans les dernières années il a coordonné le projet FET-OPEN TREASURE, le projet ANR DOPO, les projets DOLPHIN et PANAMA du Labex SEAM, 2 programmes bilatéraux PHC, et il a participé au programmes Erasmus-Mundus NANOPHI et Co-fund MULTIPLY de l’UE, plus 3 projets RTD et 1 RTN dans des programmes précédents de l’UE. A present il est coordinateur du projet ANR NOMOS et participe au projets ANR NANOPAIR et NANO-APPEARANCE, ainsi qu’au projet ASTRID SPAIN.
G. Leo a publié plus de 110 articles sur des journaux à comité de lecture (>2600 citations et h-30 sur Google-Scholar) et 12 chapitres de livre, il a enregistré 4 brevets, donné plus de 250 conférences dont plus de 60 invitées, et édité un volume. Il a été nommé OSA Fellow dans la classe 2020 « pour des contributions pionnières à la nanophotonique non-linéaire avec des nanoantennes et des métasurfaces monolithiques en arséniure de gallium et aluminium ».
